Privacy policy

What we store

If you create an account, we store your pen name, email address, and a hashed (unreadable) version of your password. Your email address is never displayed publicly and is used only to log you in and, if you link the iOS app, to associate your published stories with your account.

Stories you publish are stored in our database and displayed publicly on this site. They include your pen name, the story text, genre, word count, and publish date. No real names appear anywhere on the site.

If you publish from the iOS app, the app sends your story data to this site. If you choose to link your web account in the app settings, your email address is included in that request to associate the story with your account. It is not stored on the story record itself — only used to look up your account at the time of the request.

Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. It contains no personal information and is deleted when you close your browser or sign out.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and use it. Analytics data is anonymised and aggregated — we do not track individual visitors. You can opt out using your browser’s privacy settings or a tracker blocker.

Third parties

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties. Stories published here are public by design — that is the point of publishing them.

Deletion

You can unpublish or delete any story from your dashboard at any time. To delete your account entirely, email hello@storymachine.ink.
